TANZA, CAVITE — The readiness and response capabilities of emergency responders in Tanza, Cavite were put to the test during a major Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) held as part of the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.
The drill was conducted on July 24 at Villa Excellance Beach and Wave Pool Resort and was led by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Tanza.
Participating agencies included the Cavite Maritime Police Station, led by Station Chief PMAJ Jerwin Lalamoro; the Tanza Municipal Police Station; Philippine Coast Guard–Tanza Sub-Station; Bureau of Fire Protection–Tanza; and Bantay Dagat–Tanza.
Two emergency scenarios were simulated to assess the responders’ speed, coordination, and preparedness. The first involved a maritime collision incident, requiring authorities to quickly respond to a situation that could threaten the lives of people at sea.
This was followed by a simulated explosion that triggered a Level 3 fire alarm in the resort’s parking area. The exercise tested the responders’ communication, coordination, and ability to carry out simultaneous operations involving multiple agencies.
Officials emphasized the importance of preparedness, rapid communication, and inter-agency cooperation to ensure an effective response during actual emergencies.
The exercise also aimed to identify areas that still need improvement in the response systems of participating agencies and to ensure that they can work together efficiently during emergencies.
Organizers described the SAREX as a successful activity that strengthened the preparedness and coordination of emergency responders in Tanza.
The local government and partner agencies continue to enhance their disaster preparedness efforts to protect lives and property, particularly in communities located along the coastal areas. (Martin Banaag)
