Quezon Police Chief Calls for Stronger Ties With Media as QMSC Head Returns
LUCENA CITY — The Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) has renewed its call for continued unity and professional cooperation with local media, emphasizing timely, accurate, and balanced information sharing while affirming full respect for press freedom. Director Col. Romulo “Bong” Albacea delivered this appeal during the Quezon Media Sports Club (QMSC) general assembly, held at Balay Kayakas Resort in Barangay Ilayang Iyam and presided over by club president Gemi Formaran.
Albacea praised the solidarity among Quezon’s media practitioners and urged that any minor disagreements be set aside in favor of a harmonious working relationship. He acknowledged that differing perspectives on news handling may occasionally arise, asking for greater understanding of police procedures and operational realities as the force carries out its law enforcement and public safety duties. He added that constructive, fair criticism is always welcome, noting it helps the QPPO improve its service to the community.
The gathering also marked Formaran’s first face-to-face appearance before the full membership after more than a month and a half away from public view, drawing warm welcomes and enthusiastic support from colleagues. The event doubled as an extended birthday tribute; members presented a cake and sang for him, following his actual 57th birthday celebration on September 19 at Inwood Tavern in Tayabas City, which was joined by family, local officials, and prominent community figures.
In his remarks, Formaran expressed gratitude to members for their continued trust and to club officers for steering the organization during his absence. He briefly referenced his time away without elaborating in detail, and announced plans for the QMSC’s third sports festival this November—following the August 21 event he was unable to attend. He extended special thanks to Aboitiz Power Corp. for sponsoring the earlier gathering, and to Albacea for his consistent partnership and support for Quezon’s media community.
