DOST-CALABARZON OPENS 2026 REGIONAL SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION WEEK IN LUCENA CITY TO BENEFIT QUEZON COMMUNITIES
LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The Department of Science and Technology in CALABARZON (DOST-CALABARZON), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Quezon, opened the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) today, October 12, at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City, bringing science- and technology-based solutions closer to communities across the province.
The three-day celebration, running until October 14, carries the theme “Science, Technology, and Digital Innovation: Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilience.” The event is expected to gather approximately 1,000 participants from national government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, private industries, research organizations, and other sectors involved in scientific and technological development.
Through the annual gathering, DOST-CALABARZON seeks to demonstrate how scientific research, emerging technologies, and digital innovation can be translated into practical solutions for communities. The initiative also provides an opportunity for government institutions, researchers, educators, businesses, and other stakeholders to exchange ideas, establish partnerships, and explore innovations that respond to local development needs.
Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week is an annual undertaking of the Department of Science and Technology’s regional offices nationwide. It serves as a platform for presenting scientific discoveries, technology-based products, research outputs, and innovative programs that can help improve people’s lives and strengthen the country’s development efforts.
For Quezon Province, hosting the regional celebration places the spotlight on the importance of science and technology in addressing challenges related to food production, energy sustainability, economic development, and disaster preparedness. The event’s focus on food security highlights the role of innovation in strengthening agricultural productivity and supporting food-related enterprises, while its emphasis on sustainable energy encourages the development and adoption of more efficient energy solutions.
The inclusion of digital innovation also underscores the growing importance of technology in improving public services, strengthening business operations, and expanding access to information and opportunities. By bringing together representatives from different sectors, the gathering aims to encourage collaboration and promote the practical application of scientific knowledge in communities.
Beyond showcasing innovations, the three-day event is expected to strengthen awareness of government-supported science and technology initiatives and encourage wider participation in programs that help local enterprises improve productivity, product quality, and competitiveness.
The 2026 RSTW in Lucena City forms part of the country’s broader observance of National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, reinforcing the government’s continuing efforts to position science, technology, and innovation as important drivers of inclusive economic growth and national resilience.
As the regional celebration continues through October 14, it provides an opportunity for Quezon residents and participating institutions to recognize how research, technological advancement, and cooperation can contribute to more sustainable and resilient communities.
