DOST-CALABARZON Unveils Digital Business Locator to Put Lucena Enterprises on the Map
LUCENA CITY, Quezon — A groundbreaking mobile and web application is set to transform how residents and visitors find and support local enterprises here, as highlighted by DOST-CALABARZON Regional Director Emelita P. Bagsit during the opening press conference of the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) at the Quezon Convention Center.
Dubbed the Digital Business Locator (DBL), the platform serves as a comprehensive digital directory that maps registered local businesses — displaying their exact locations, contact details, products and services, and operating hours. Director Bagsit emphasized that the app goes beyond a simple listing, aiming to make every shop, supplier, and service center in Lucena easily accessible with just a few taps on a mobile device.
For residents and customers, the DBL means no more wandering around or making repeated inquiries just to find what they need. It provides accurate, real-time information, helping people discover nearby establishments and keeping spending within the local community rather than traveling outside the city for goods and services.
Local business owners and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) stand to benefit the most. The application gives even the smallest shops a strong digital presence without the cost of building their own website, creating a level playing field where every business — big or small — enjoys equal online visibility. This greater reach also benefits tourists and visitors, who can easily locate Lucena-based enterprises and local products during their stay.
From the perspective of the local government and city development, Director Bagsit noted that the DBL creates a centralized, organized database of businesses. This not only aids the city in monitoring and planning economic activities but also lays the groundwork for a digitally connected, modern Lucena — a key step toward building a smarter, more resilient city.
Officials also acknowledged that sustained success requires continuous effort: business listings must be kept updated, entrepreneurs need basic digital literacy training to maintain their profiles, and reliable internet connectivity across barangays remains essential for the app to reach its full potential.
“Ultimately, this app puts Lucena’s businesses on the map — literally,” Director Bagsit remarked. “Greater visibility leads to more customers, more sales, and a stronger local economy. That is the future we are building for Quezon — one innovation at a time.”
