The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has destroyed more than 2.2 metric tons of illegal drugs seized during various anti-drug operations across the country.
According to the PDEA, the confiscated drugs were valued at approximately P12.34 billion. The haul consisted of more than two million grams of solid dangerous drugs and over 100 million milliliters of liquid dangerous drugs.
Among the destroyed substances were 1,774,023.9425 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, with an estimated street value of P12.06 billion. A large portion of the drugs was confiscated during anti-drug operations conducted in Valenzuela City.
The seized drugs were destroyed through incineration at a waste management facility in Cavite on Thursday, August 27. The PDEA said the destruction represents the largest value of illegal drugs it has destroyed so far this year.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez assured the public that the agency will continue to intensify its campaign against illegal drugs and strengthen efforts to prevent dangerous substances from reaching communities.
