AboitizPower Honors 470 Fisherfolk in Pagbilao Through Annual “Alon at Ani” Program
PAGBILAO, Quezon — Therma Luzon Inc. (TLI), a subsidiary of AboitizPower, honored 470 fisherfolk representing 26 fishing associations in the Municipality of Pagbilao during its annual “Alon at Ani” program. The recognition was held alongside the gathering of local fisherfolk as a tribute to their invaluable contributions to food security, sustainable livelihoods, and the continued development of their communities.
“Alon at Ani” is an annual initiative of AboitizPower that recognizes the dedication, resilience, and hard work of local fishing communities while strengthening collaboration between the private sector and its host communities. This year’s event was attended by the Local Government of Pagbilao, led by Mayor Gigi Portes, together with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which conducted information sessions on maritime safety, responsible fishing practices, and marine resource conservation.
Roger Cañares, President of the Samahan ng Mangingisda ng Banlisan at Pantoc (SMBP), expressed his appreciation for AboitizPower’s continued partnership with the local fishing sector. According to Cañares, the company has not only provided reliable power services but has also supported fisherfolk through various livelihood initiatives and community assistance programs that have helped improve their quality of life.
Meanwhile, Lou Jason Deligencia, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Services of AboitizPower for South Luzon and Metro Manila, said this year’s program expanded its scope by inviting the Provincial Fisheries Office and the Philippine Coast Guard in response to the fisherfolk’s request for more learning opportunities. He noted that the collaboration aims to enhance participants’ knowledge of maritime safety, coastal security, sustainable fisheries management, and environmental stewardship.
The “Alon at Ani” program forms part of Therma Luzon Inc.’s broader community engagement initiatives designed to foster stronger partnerships with the people of Pagbilao. Through programs like these, AboitizPower continues to promote responsible corporate citizenship while advancing its mission of delivering reliable, resilient, and affordable energy to communities across the Philippines.
